Dr. Emily Callan
Chartered Clinical Psychologist
Dr Callan is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and a Registered Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Social Care Professionals Council (HCPC). She has extensive experience in the NHS, private and charitable organisations, working with children and young people, families, adults, staff teams and students. She has worked in a range of therapeutic areas including neuropsychological rehabilitation, adult mental health, learning disability, child and adolescent mental health (CAMHS) and paediatric psychology services. She is also an accredited Expert Witness with the BPS and supervisor for clinical psychology trainees, assistant psychologists and undergraduate psychology students.
Dr Callan is currently employed as a Senior Clinical Psychologist within the NHS, and works with adults experiencing severe and enduring mental health difficulties. She works with a broad range of psychological difficulties including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, historical trauma, bereavement, relationship difficulties, gender-related distress and the psychological impact of physical illness and injury. She also works in close partnership with secondary schools across Northamptonshire providing therapeutic support for young people on a range of psychological and behavioural difficulties including anger and challenging behaviour, self-harm and eating difficulties. Dr Callan is skilled in providing structured cognitive and neuropsychological assessment for adults and young people aged 16 and over.
Dr Callan is experienced in the integration of a number of therapeutic approaches and uses a person centred approach, drawing on a number of psychological models appropriate to individual client needs. She draws on a theoretical background of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), compassion focussed (CFT) and acceptance and commitment approaches (ACT).
Dr Callan is an Associate Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Northampton and University of Bedfordshire and Luton. She is also a Consultant Practitioner, providing training, reflective practice, supervision and support for staff teams on a range of psychosocial needs. She is currently undergoing specialist training in Adult Clinical Neuropsychology at the University of Bristol. This is in partial fulfilment of her accredited training with the British Psychological Society as a registered Adult Clinical Neuropsychologist.
