Nicola Woods

Counsellor & EMDR Practitioner

Hello, I’m Nicola, and I’m a highly experienced counsellor, EMDR therapist, and clinical supervisor. I have experience working as a counsellor within a range of settings, including the charitable sector, academic environments, private practice, and as an associate for Serendipity Psychology. I work with a wide range of psychological issues and with both adults and young people. My original professional background was as a lawyer, but I retrained, and I have now been a qualified therapist for over 10 years. I feel privileged to work in this role.

Taking the first step towards seeking counselling takes real courage. You may have recently or historically experienced a traumatic life event, or you may be feeling low, depressed, anxious, and believe that something just isn’t right in your life. I provide a safe and confidential space for you to explore these feelings and experiences, and I pride myself on being non-judgmental and professional. I’m passionate about the benefits therapy can bring to your overall well-being.

I will work with you in a way that we agree together would be beneficial, whether that be traditional talking therapy or working more creatively. I believe that the most important aspect of therapy is the relationship you build with your therapist, and I am a person-centred therapist at my core. This means I believe the relationship is the most important and influential agent of therapeutic change.

As an EMDR-trained therapist, I have a specialist interest in working with trauma and practice in a trauma-informed way, addressing both single-incident and complex trauma. I would recommend EMDR therapy to help process traumatic events, as it can bring about therapeutic recovery when traditional therapy hasn’t been successful.

I am an accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

I am based in Burton Latimer, Northamptonshire, and my private and discreet consulting room has accessible parking, overlooks beautiful countryside, and has close links to the A14. I also offer remote sessions via Zoom for those who prefer to work online.
