Dr. Anwen Goodwin

Consultant Clinical Psychologist

Hello, I’m Dr Anwen Goodwin and I’m a Consultant Clinical Psychologist. I have been working within mental health services for over 15 years and have experience working in a range of settings including the NHS, independent and academic organisations.

I work with individuals of all ages who have a range of difficulties. My specialist area is working with young people and their families, particularly those who have experienced trauma in their early childhood. I have worked with children in care and adopted young people for over 12 years and have a high level of experience working with attachment difficulties and building trusting relationships. I also specialise in assessment and therapy relating to neurodivergence including those who may be diagnosed with or seeking diagnosis for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), or an autistic spectrum condition (ASC).

I blend different therapy models in my sessions and like to focus on creating a positive working relationship, so clients feel comfortable during therapy. When working with children and young people I always have a bag full of games and fidget toys so we can have fun while we get to know each other and feel more relaxed when talking about things that are more difficult. I work flexibly and tailor sessions to each young person so that they feel comfortable with me. I am trained in Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP) and enjoy working with families to strengthen relationships and improve quality of life. I have over 10 years of experience offering therapeutic parenting, both individually and in group formats. I am passionate about supporting parents and carers navigate the challenges of parenting and finding practical solutions to improve daily life. When working with adults who have experienced trauma, I like to be collaborative in my approach and support clients to understand links between their past trauma and current challenges. I use a range of therapy models, including EMDR and trauma-informed CBT to work through the impact of trauma. I find it really rewarding when people make positive progress and are able to move forward from what has held them back in the past. I offer independent consultation and therapy for clients online, or in my Northamptonshire-based clinic. I am a member of the British Psychological Society and am HCPC registered.
