Since qualifying as a clinical psychologist at doctoral level in 2008 from Coventry and Warwick University, Dr Charlie Staniforth has worked in several settings including adolescent inpatient settings with young people who have developmental disabilities, mental health and forensic needs; she is experienced and trained in working with a wide range of severe and enduring mental health difficulties. She has also worked in secure children’s homes and has significant experience as an expert witness in adult developmental disabilities. Dr Staniforth completed the Bond Solon Expert Witness training in 2012.
Dr Staniforth has a special interest in developmental trauma, mental health systems and compassionate leadership. During her work in the independent sector, she has led psychology teams and clinically led a service implementing trauma-informed models of care. She has been a Consultant Clinical Psychologist since 2015 and is a trained dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) therapist, EMDR therapist, behavioural family therapist, and a trained coach.
Dr Staniforth has experience in individual and group therapy as well as working with teams including leading on positive behaviour support (PBS), reflective practice, supervision, and training. She continues to hold a position as a Clinical Research Fellow at St Andrew’s Healthcare in Northampton where she is leading the Trauma-Informed Sexual Health Toolkit project.
