Dr Gracie McLaven

Clinical Psychologist

Hi, I’m Dr Gracie McLaven and I’m a clinical psychologist and Lead for Serendipity’s Empowering Parents Therapeutic Parenting Hub (EmPaTh), our nationally offered therapeutic parenting support. I have a wealth of experience in working within mental health services across a range of settings including the NHS, private, and academic organisations.

I specialise in working with parents whose children are struggling. Their children may have previously been looked after by the local authority, be adopted, or be experiencing difficulties as a result of other difficulties such as diagnosed or suspected neurodivergence (ADHD or an autism spectrum condition; ASD), or other mental health and behavioural conditions. I offer parenting consultation, 1:1 therapeutic parenting sessions, and 1:1 trauma and attachment-focused therapy for adults. I also offer support to the Attachment, Trauma and Neurodivergent Pathways within Serendipity Psychology Services.

I believe that parents deserve more support with their mental health and parenting; after all, there is no handbook on how to raise children and the challenges that come with this role. Being a parent is both incredibly rewarding and incredibly hard.

I use a range of approaches in my work to best meet the needs of the individuals and parent/s I am working with. Some approaches I draw from include cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), dyadic developmental psychotherapy (DDP), eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy; all of which I have training and experience in.

I will often be seen with a coffee in hand and welcome you to enjoy a hot cup of tea or coffee during our sessions (from my experience it might be the only one you get that day)! All my services are online as I’ve found this allows most of my clients and parents to fit the sessions more easily into their busy schedules.

I’m a member of the British Psychological Society (BPS), Association for Clinical Psychologists UK (ACP) and registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
