Hello, I’m Sophia Ferdous. I am a Specialist Occupational Therapist and an intensively trained DBT therapist, registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
I have worked within the mental health care setting for the past 15 years in Northamptonshire and Milton Keynes, gaining extensive experience with young people and adults of all ages across various settings. These include secure care, medium, low, and locked rehabilitation settings, as well as community-based work. Throughout my career, I have worked with a wide range of clients, including those with emotionally unstable personality disorder/borderline personality disorder (EUPD/BPD), Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), self-harm, anxiety, depression, stress, low self-esteem, anger management, suicidal ideation, addictions, substance misuse, and eating disorders.
I have a strong background in providing therapeutic support to adults and young people, with a particular focus on DBT therapy. I also extend this work to include family DBT awareness groups, offering educational sessions for parents and carers. My specialisation in DBT allows me to deliver both skills training and one-to-one therapy, where I identify clients’ needs and develop interventions that help them generalise their skills in the community, ultimately supporting them in leading safe, independent, and fulfilling lives.
For the past six years, I have been part of an intensive DBT treatment team within a specialist personality disorder service at a private hospital. This role has further enhanced my expertise with clients facing complex challenges, including self-harm, depression, anxiety, disordered eating, and ASD. Before this, I worked across various levels of secure care in mental healthcare settings, giving me a broad understanding of diverse needs. By combining DBT therapy with my Occupational Therapy skills, I help clients not only learn new strategies but also apply them effectively in their everyday lives. My approach is client-centred, allowing me to explore, understand, and collaboratively address needs through both face-to-face and online therapy sessions.
I am also currently training to become a sensory integration practitioner, adding another layer to my existing skill set and increasing the range of flexible, tailored support I can offer to clients.
